Yachtcharter on the Bahamas and Abacos Sailing in the Turquoise Paradise

Bahamas / Abacos

At around 90 nautical miles off the coast of Florida lie waters which were once ruled by warring pirates. Today the Bahamas offer a protected and appealing sailing area with water that is crystal clear and warm. These waters are surrounded by the world's second largest reef. The short distance between the Great Abaco and Little Abaco islands as well as a small chain of smaller islands to the east make these waters ideal for sailors traveling with their families.

The climate of the Bahamas is influenced by the Gulf Stream and by the american continent. The highest temperatures lie at around 22 to 23 degrees Celsius. The trade wind blows steadily at around 10 and 20 knots mostly from the north-west during wintertime.

The sailor can expect daily sunshine which is interrupted only by refreshing decreases of temperature and occasional rain. In Great Guana Bay there is a research institution where you can swim and even play with dolphins.

The starting base for sailing trips to Abacos is Marsh Harbour. There are limitations on the waters that can be sailed (Exumas).
